[ARCHIVED] Water Conservation Restriction in Place

Water Conservation Restriction in Place

Nonessential Water Use Limited to Every Other Day

Due to the extended dry spell, the Town of Medfield is now subject to a Tier 2 water conservation restriction to remain in compliance with our Water Management Act permit. In addition to the low rainfall, we are also experiencing higher than normal usage.

Nonessential water use is only allowed every other day outside the hours of 9 am to 5 pm. Even numbered houses are allowed nonessential water use on even numbered days. Odd numbered houses are allowed nonessential water use on odd numbered days.

Thank you to all our residents and businesses for following this restriction to reduce our water usage and reduce the pressure on our water system and infrastructure.

Examples of nonessential outdoor water uses include but are not limited to:

  • Uses that are not required for health or safety reasons
  • Irrigation of lawns via sprinklers or automatic irrigation systems
  • Washing of vehicles other than by means of a commercial car wash, except as necessary for operator safety
  • Washing of exterior building surfaces, parking lots, driveways or sidewalks, except as necessary to apply paint, preservatives, stucco, pavement or cement

Examples of acceptable outdoor water uses include:

  • Irrigation to establish a new lawn during the months of May and September
  • Irrigation of lawns, gardens, flowers, and ornamental plants via hand held hoses only
  • Irrigation of public parks and recreational fields outside the hours of 9 am to 5 pm
