Medfield's Board of Selectmen and Town Administrator form of government was created through the Town Charter.
An elected 3-member Board of Selectmen meets throughout the year to make policy and oversee the operations of the Town government.
Day-to-day administration of the Town of Medfield is provided by a full-time professional Town Administrator appointed by the Board of Selectmen. The municipal department and division heads report to the Town Administrator.
The legislative function is performed by an Open Town Meeting that meets at least annually to appropriate funds, revise local bylaws, and make other decisions as needed. The quorum for the Open Town Meeting is 250 registered voters. The Town Meeting form of government is used only in New England.
The 5 member elected Planning Board is the steward of the Townwide Master Plan, the Zoning By-law and Subdivision Rules and Regulations. The Planning Department is staffed by a professional planner who manages the day-to-day planning work and provides technical information to the Planning Board and the Zoning Board of Appeals.
The Town Clerk is responsible for the public records of the town, as well as managing elections and handling marriage licenses, dog licenses and other vital records.
Numerous citizen volunteers are elected or appointed to a variety of other commissions, boards, and committees. The webpage for each group contains information about its Charge, membership, public meeting schedule and links to meeting minutes. See the Meeting and Events Calendar for upcoming meetings with agendas.
